What is most interesting to me is the President declaring that Nobody knew this would happen when, in fact, we have said for years that it was a question of “when” not “if”.
Even I understood that and I am not privy to the type and quality of information that the White House has available.
I think this speaks to an unwillingness to prepare: it seems that in general we would rather respond to a disaster than be prepared in advance.
It also shows that the president is both learning on the job and always one step behind. He seems surprised by the things that he should have known and his disdain for experts leaves him unprepared. The big question is whether or not this will continue. Even if they president can’t change, Republicans could hold him to account.
